Sometimes people think that the ocean around Cape Town is cold. Is this actually the case? Let's have a closer look at the facts. First of all it is important to know that probably no other kiteboarding region in the world is so multi-facetted and diverse as in and around Cape Town. This city is the only one in the world located at two Oceans. The Indian Ocean is warm and its warm waters stream from the Equator southwards along the South African coast. So the water at all beaches and kite spots in the Indian Ocean are around 25° Celsius. Then there are lagoons, such as the lagoon in Langebaan north of Cape Town with the sun heating up the flat water. On some kite spots, however, such as at the legendary Kitebeach in Table View and famous Big Bay (both are about 10 km north of Cape Town at Bloubergstrand), you will however need a good wetsuit to protect you from the cold water of the Atlantic Ocean. But you will get used to it and the strong wind and spectacular waves will make you forget the water temperature very soon
